Social Justice representatives from various churches have delivered a letter to the governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Governor Gabriel Makhlouf, urging the institution to immediately cease the regulation of the sale of Israel Bonds in Europe.
The letter states that "We want to express our deep concern for the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the role of the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) in facilitating the sale of the Israeli Bond Programme in the EU. The CBI, in approving the Israeli Bond Programme, are providing the means for the widespread death and destruction that is taking place. The Bonds are openly marketed as 'war' bonds by the Israeli Development Company, based in the US,"
The letter is signed by representatives from multiple faith communities and was co-ordinated by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
The church representatives included Reverend Steven Foster, Southern Chairperson, Council on Social Responsibility. Along with the other church representatives, he spoke at a rally outside the Central Bank in Dublin. Dr. Gary Carville, Executive Secretary, Social Issues & International Affairs of the Irish Catholic Bishops Conference, along with the other church representatives then handed the letter to a Central Bank representative.
CSR South will be present at the National March for Palestine on Saturday 19th July. It invites Methodists, and others, to meet around our banner at the Garden of Remembrance at 12.30pm.
