Prayers for South Africa Flood Victims
Devastating floods have struck Mthatha and the surrounding areas in the Eastern Cape of South Africa in the past few weeks. At least 90 lives have been lost, including school children whose bus was swept away in the flood waters. Many more people are still missing, communities have been displaced and infrastructure destroyed.
Join us as we pray for those grieving lost loved ones, for the missing to be found and for strength for those managing the relief effort in Mthatha:
Father God,
We come before you to pray for the people of South Africa. This natural disaster has left homes and lives destroyed, families displaces and hearts broken.
We lift those grieving lost loved ones before you, may you comfort them and give them strength. We think of those still searching for the missing, give them resilience - we hope and pray that no more will be added to the number lost.
We thank you for The Methodist Church of Southern Africa and the emergency relief workers, who are supporting their communities as they navigate this disaster and rebuild their lives in the wake of these floods.
Be with everyone who have been impacted, give them exactly what they need at this time.
In your name,
Amen.
As well as prayerful support Irish Methodists have been able to send practical, financial support: Irish Methodist World Development & Relief has sent £2,000/ €2,340 to support the emergency relief being carried out by The Methodist Church of Southern Africa.
