Prayers of Solidarity for Refugees

In connection with World Refugee Day, Friday 20th June, World Mission Partnership and MCI’s Council on Social Responsibility (CSR) are calling on Irish Methodists to pray for refugees around the world.

There are currently over 120 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, including refugees, asylum-seekers and those internally displaced within their home country. As Irish Methodists, we have a responsibility to welcome the stranger and protect the oppressed. Today we join with others around the world to celebrate the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees, taking time to pray in solidarity for these families and individuals who have been forced to leave their homes and lives behind because of violence, persecution and human rights violations.

We pray that our Methodist church communities across Ireland can be a safe harbour for the refugees and asylum seekers who have made their way to our shores. We call out all hate and racism directed at those who are seeking refuge in Ireland. We pray that each individual, with their unique skills, abilities, passions and dreams can be brought into community, supported and loved as they rebuild their lives. May God help us to welcome others as Christ has welcomed us.
