Container for Lebanon

Today, a container was sent to Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf (FAID), supported by World Mission Partnership and World Development & Relief.

FAID delivers education to children who are deaf or hard of hearing, usually from deprived backgrounds, regardless of their religion or ethnic origin. Since the war started in Syria, the school has also been enrolling refugee children. At present there are over 30 Syrian refugee students that call FAID their second home.  FAID also connect with a further 50 children through their outreach work. Students are taught to speak, lipread as well as all the academic and life skills that they need to survive in a country that is not very  kind to people with a disability.

The container was coordinated by Friends of FAID in Carlow and contains items requested by the school to help them in their work. Items were donated locally and include:

  • Educational materials and equipment

  • School chairs

  • Gardening tools

  • Projectors

  • TVs

  • Speakers

  • Printer

  • 9 computers

  • Stationery

  • White boards

The Methodist Church in Ireland has many global connections, managed by both World Mission Partnership and World Development & Relief. The two departments always work together when they can and were pleased to support Friends of FAID with this container.
