The Church of South India - Diocese of East Kerala is providing flood relief (dry ration kits, clothing, kitchen vessels, students’ study materials, bedding, plus personnel and distribution expenses) for residents from four villages in the Diocese of East Kerala with support from the World Mission Fund (£6085).

On 16th of October 2021 heavy rain began at around 9 am in the morning and continued for 5 -6 hours. All most all rivers in the state were flooded and there were numerous landslides reported in various parts of the state. In order to control the water level, the government had to open shutters of 9 dams of different hydroelectric projects, which too increased the levels of flooding downstream. Roads and bridges collapsed; electricity and mobile signals were interrupted. People in the valleys had to flee to the relief camp empty handed. The recent floods have caused much damage in the villages of Koottickal, Mukkulam, Moolamattom and Kannickal. All these villages are within the geographical location of the East Kerala Diocese. The flood devastated hundreds of hectors of land, demolishing all the crops, houses, livestock, vehicles etc. within a few minutes. 39 deaths are reported. 62 families of Koottickal St. Luke’s Church, St. Mark’s Church Mukkulam, All Saints Church Moolamattom and St.Thomas Church Kannickal are badly affected by the recent flood.
