Portlaoise Circuit
SOUTHERN DISTRICT
The Portlaoise Circuit is located in the heart of Ireland in the Southern District. Stories of Growth are built on prayer, fellowship, Scripture and worship. The object lesson is to ensure that children, church and community are impacted by activities that encourage lasting connections.
Children's Activities:
The Circuit Sunday school's growth has shown a 20% increase as the teachers engage with the children providing fun actvities to bring the Sunday School alive and reactive. The teenagers are encouraged to take up the planning of the family services for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Back to School and the Children's Christmas Service.
The children are also encouraged to meet together and work with a drama company to help develop their 'Spiritual Confidence and Resilience' and reduce their 'Social Media Reliance'.
This summer, planned events include sports, BBQs and walks to encourage families with children to have fun.
Bible Study & Discussion/Prayer:
The annual planned themed sessions for Lent and Christmas with the Church of Ireland have doubled so that we meet for 4 week sessions in May and August to discuss the current news as it affects us.
The online sessions for the elders in Athy has encouraged weekly connection and interest has increased the attendance by 25%. A Faith Friends coffee morning in Mountmellick allows for the local community to meet weekly.
Worship:
The Portlaoise circuit is blessed with a number of Local Preachers who bring their own style and sense of worship. The congregation is encouraged to participate in activities and enjoy the preaching and teaching styles.
Personal testimonies and uplifting songs with traditional services and Charles Wesley's songs have seen the Circuit attendance peak at 30% up on last year. Many of the new people and families are from a variety of countries including Brazil, Colombia, Nigeria, South Africa, Togo, and Zimbabwe. It makes for interesting and challenging ministry to ensure the spiritual needs of our families are met.
Future Plans:
As Mountmellick is being restored, the family led services will allow for all ages to enjoy fellowship, worship and back to basics Sunday School together.
