Methodist Centenary, Leeson Park
southern DISTRICT
At Methodist Centenary, Leeson Park, there are encouraging stories of new faces most Sundays.
Nadia was baptised at Killiney Beach
Some are on holidays staying at local hotels, some are students, some are international protection applicants who are accommodated locally, and some are people who have come to work in Dublin.
This diversity of new people coming on Sundays can be attributed to good communications, particularly online, and most importantly a warm welcome and sense of hospitality that is at the heart of Methodist Centenary.
The congregation are discovering that welcome and hospitality leads to building relationships and deeper conversations. Their English conversation group is also an excellent ministry that helps many, and social activities such as walks, help to integrate those new to this island.
Due to location, the congregation can frequently change, however, knowing that time may be limited with new people, the congregation aim to share a meaningful experience of faith so that people can be enriched and empowered for new steps in Christ.
Methodist Centenary are thankful for the diversity of their new members celebrating the wealth of culture and experience that brings to a congregation. One recent story to celebrate is of Nadia, who came to Centenary over two years ago. Nadia is from a United Methodist background in Mozambique and found Methodist Centenary through a Google search. From the start, she engaged in Bible study and a fellowship group that sometimes leads worship in other churches. Whilst in Mozambique Nadia had been preparing for baptism, however this was unfortunately interrupted. The congregation and leadership of Methodist Centenary were delighted to pick up and continue this journey with Nadia who demonstrated a warm and real commitment to spiritual growth and discipleship. There was a great sense of celebration in June 25 when Nadia was baptised at Killiney Beach.
Centenary Methodist is evidence of a church embracing change and diversity which leads to a growth, not only in numbers but in meaningful relationship with Christ and others.
