“The People of Northern Ireland deserve leadership not brinkmanship”

says President Rev Dr Sahr Yambasu

In another crucial week in the political life of Northern Ireland, the newly elected President of the Methodist, the Rev. Dr.Sahr Yambasu has issued the following statement:

In a report to our recent Conference, our Council on Social Responsibility acknowledged the two new leaders within Unionism and wished them well.

I too wish to offer my good wishes to both the new leaders and their predecessors and pray for a smooth transition for the First and Deputy First ministers. Northern Ireland can ill-afford another period of political brinkmanship which could jeopardise the devolved administration at Stormont, so I urge all sides to remember their respective commitments in the New Decade, New Approach deal and work for the benefit of all citizens of Northern Ireland, not simply narrow party interests.
