mission and ministry development units

The following units, delivered in conjunction with our partners at Cliff College, will be running during the 2024-2025 academic year. If you are interested in applying for any of them, please contact ministries@irishmethodist.org for an application form.

Applicants from the Methodist Church in Ireland should email the Ministries Team for details of bursaries available to assist with the Unit fees.

Safe Place

The Safe Place zoom seminar is a 90-minute information session that combines information on the Safe Place Initiative along with Domestic Violence and Abuse Awareness Raising. The aim of this session is to explain how through the Safe Place initiative, churches of whatever size, can become Safe Places for anyone to access information on the local services available for people living with domestic abuse.

exploring local preaching

Are you interested in finding out more about Local Preaching in the Methodist Church in Ireland?

This introductory session is for those who are discerning a calling to this important ministry. The session is also for ordained ministers, lay workers and accredited local preachers who will support those in training in their local context.

The evening will include an exploration of:

– Being called to be a Local Preacher

– The why and how of Local Preacher Training in MCI

– Training in the local context

Healthcare Pastoral Visitation Course

Are you interested in healthcare visitation, within your local church or within a chaplaincy setting? This course, run in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Healthcare Chaplains’ Association, gives participants the opportunity to reflect on pastoral attitudes and practices and approaches to providing pastoral support within a range of healthcare contexts.

introduction to pastoral care

This introductory course is designed to equip and enable participants in the ministry of Pastoral Care. This course is open to all who wish to understand more about the heart and development of pastoral care. It provides opportunity to develop some of the essential skills required to create effective caring relationships within ministry

introduction to prayer ministry

This training explores what it means to pray with others, to intercede on someone’s behalf, and to help those who want to respond and spend time in God’s presence to receive His love, peace, comfort and healing. This training is open to all who desire to learn more about this ministry, for refresher training, and will equip participants to provide prayer ministry in a church, event or community setting.

We provide online and face-to-face evening and day seminars on a range of topics that are helpful to ministry in the local context.
