Catherine Connolly has been inaugurated as the tenth President of Ireland today, Tuesday 11th November.

Along with other religious leaders, the Rev Alan Wardlow attended the inauguration ceremony on behalf of the Methodist Church in Ireland and offered prayers to the incoming President:

“Lord God, we pray today for the new President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly as she assumes the Office to which she was elected.

Enable her to work for a just and inclusive society where all people are valued. May all her work be carried out in dependence of you, Lord, and for the well-being of everyone.

Father God, enable her to look to you, and in so doing, grant her strength, guidance and the inspiration she needs as she serves this nation.

We pray for her family and her home, that it may be a place of love and welcome and we ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen”
