Faith & Family Event

On Saturday  20th September, 55 ladies descended on Parliament  buildings, The theme of the event was Faith and Family. It was beautiful Autumn day and the Long Gallery was the perfect setting.

Following coffee with freshly baked scones, a time of praise was led by Alison Humphries the NW Vice President MWI. Alison had travelled straight from holidaying in Scotland with her mum to be with us.

Lindsay Robinson MBE opened the morning session with a game of ‘dingbats’ which was new to many  but we soon got the hang of the game, the chatter and laughter was mighty.

Then using a paper plate and pen, we individually listed all we “had on our plates” at home, work, church and yes for most of us our plates were full if not overflowing! Lindsay then, through scripture and personal experience, shared that Jesus wants us to find rest in him, sit with him and listen to his voice. Reflecting on Mary and Martha the sisters whom Jesus loved dearly Lindsay unpicked the story which was personally enlightening and encouraging.

Caroline Bradley, the National Representative  for Care for the Family in Northern Ireland shared the many services that the organisation offers to families and churches designed to promote strong family life and help those who have family difficulties.

After lunch Alison led us in praise before  Caroline led our afternoon starting with questions to get us thinking. What probably struck a chord with many was that only 50% of children growing up in Christian homes keep their faith. She explained that mums,  dads and carers are the most important influence on developing a lasting faith in children. Caroline introduced “The Kitchen Table Project” which was designed to help parents, carers and churches talk together about how they can inspire faith in children.

Caroline referred to not only the Bible but also the Rev Alan Wardlow, President of MCI  and his theme “Compelled”  Caroline added that we also need to be intentional in our speaking about Jesus to children.

This was a blessed day with new and old friends sharing in fellowship, fun and of course food together.
