HOME MISSION SUNDAY 2025

Each year the Methodist Church in Ireland sets aside Home Mission Sunday to focus on local mission and to raise money to support mission initiatives throughout Ireland.

Our theme for Home Mission Sunday 2025 is “What Matters Most”, based on the passage in Acts 20 where Paul addresses the Ephesian elders for the last time on his final missionary journey to Jerusalem.

He shares with them how, compelled by the Spirit, and uncertain about what will happen, or what trials await him, he must travel to Jerusalem. In the midst of these uncertainties, and the likelihood that he will end up in prison, what matters most to him is to “to finish what God started: the job the Master Jesus gave me of letting everyone I meet know all about this incredibly extravagant generosity of God.” (Acts 20:24 –The Message)

On Home Mission Sunday, we’re invited to reflect on this theme and consider what steps we might take to respond to God’s call, even when the path isn’t fully clear, to share what matters most in the places that God has called us to.

HOME MISSION SUNDAY VIDEO

This Home Mission Sunday, we’re highlighting some of the initiatives supported by Home Mission funding.

This short video features people involved in mission through the Methodist Church in Ireland. They reflect on their call to mission and why they’ve chosen to respond to God’s call - even when the path ahead isn’t always clear.

With thanks to Chris and Hannah Agnew (Pioneer Mission Leaders – Coastal, Portrush), Diana Farrelly (Youth and Children’s Worker – Larne Methodist Circuit), Neil Curran (Pioneer Mission Leader – Braniel, Belfast), Simon Kilpatrick (Home Mission Team) and Stefanie Gabuyo (Pioneer Mission Leader - Dublin).
