Shade House, Guyana

David Nesbitt, Jordan Litchfield and Jake Thompson are visiting the Methodist Church in Guyana.

Yesterday, they visited Zion Methodist Church to see their "Shade House". This project uses land behind the church to grow vegetables, which were initially used to support a feeding programme for local schools. Now that the Guyanese Government provide food for the pupils instead, the vegetables have been sold as both food and herbal remedies to provide income for the church.

In nearby New Amsterdam, vegetables grown by Central Methodist Church are used to support a food bank for the local community. It's a simple, practical way of supporting both the church and the community around them - and it works all over the world! You'll find similar projects in Namibia, and in MCI’s own Knockbreda Community Garden.
