Prayers of Solidarity: Scripture Availability
The Methodist Church in Ireland has many international partnerships through its World Mission Partnership department and also its World Development & Relief department.
We may take our Bibles for granted but many do not have the privilege of possessing the scriptures in their own language. In the world, 7.8 billion people speak 7,360 languages. Half those language have no scripture translations at all; that’s 255 million people. 1.5 billion people do not have a full Bible in their first language.
MCI, through World Mission Partnership’s work with Bible Society NI, supports work in this area.
Let us pray for Bible translation and distribution.
God the Word,
Thank you for your scripture; the wisdom, poetry, stories, laws, history and teaching.
May your Word reach all peoples in their own language.
We pray for people’s who have no translated portion of scripture.
May translators come forward, may funds be given and may opportunities become evident.
We pray for those who cannot see or who are illiterate.
Thank you for Braille copies and audio Bibles.
We ask you to bless the particular work that World Mission Partnership supports through Bible Society NI:
For the updating of a popular Portuguese translation to be distributed in all Portuguese-speaking countries.
For the project in Cuba to reach every province and municipality with scripture.
And with reading your Word, may people come to know you and be discipled for a lifetime.
Amen.
