Prayers for Christians in Tehran

Throughout the year, World Mission Partnership is in touch with Church in Chains, an Irish organisation that encourages prayer and action in support of persecuted Christians worldwide. Church in Chains share prayer points to equip Irish Methodists to pray for specific places and people.

Over the next couple of months, please pray for Tehran:

  • Sara Ahmadi is Christian convert from Iran who began serving an eight-year sentence for house-church leadership in Tehran’s Evin prison in August 2022. Sara’s husband Homayoun Zhaveh is serving a two-year sentence for house-church membership in a separate section of Evin prison. Ask God to protect and encourage Sara in prison and give her good mental and physical health. Please also pray for her witness to other prisoners and guards that she would be released early.

  • Homayoun Zhaveh is a Christian convert from Islam who began serving a two-year sentence for house-church membership in Tehran’s Evin prison in August 2022. Homayoun has advanced Parkinson’s disease and Sara was his primary carer before their imprisonment. Ask God to protect and sustain Homayoun in prison and pray that he will receive the medical care he needs.

  • Rev Gebremedhin Gebregiorsis is an Eritrean Orthodox priest and expert theologian who was arrested in November 2004 because of his involvement in a Bible study renewal movement within the Eritrean Orthodox Church. He has remained in prison, incommunicado, ever since. Ask God to encourage him and give him hope. We pray for protection, good health and adequate nutrition for Gebremedhin and his fellow Christians in prison.
