New projects with Bible Society NI

For many years, Irish Methodists have been supporting the work of the Bible Society NI through World Mission Partnership. Most recently this included work in Togo, the Gulf Region and Austria. This funding cycle has now come to an end and we are pleased to share details of the two new projects we will be supporting.

The Bible Society NI exist to reach everyone with God’s word in a language and format they can access and afford, so that each person might experience God’s purpose for their life. We are pleased to continue to work with them in their mission as we support Bible translation in Portugal and Bible engagement in Cuba.

Portugal : Almeida Translation
This project will bring an update to a popular Portuguese translation which was last revised in 1898.  The "Almeida Revista e Corrigida" is still the most wanted translation in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique and this work will have a major impact on all Portuguese speaking countries.

By the end of 2021 the goal is to have completed the revision of the four Gospels and the Psalms and then have all of the New Testament completed by the end of 2022.

The Bible Society in Portugal have strong links with the Methodist Church in Portugal.

Cuba : A Bible for every Cuban
In 2018 the Cuban Bible Commission (Bible Society in Cuba) celebrated the completion of the distribution of 1 million Bibles.  This project had generated opportunities for more Bible distribution and engagement projects in all provinces across Cuba.

Plans to reach out to every province (15) and municipality (168) with Scripture and engagement tools will work through a network of groups to equip leaders, increase sustainability and strengthen the church in Cuba.

The Cuban Bible Commission is closely linked with the Cuban Council of Churches and has strong links with the Methodist Church in Cuba.
