Being Church

A reflective tool for church leaders, based on learning from the Methodist Church in South Africa. Including learning on knowing the community, ageing congregations and hospitality & pastoral care.

BY ALL MEANS

Through “friendship evangelism”, offering affordable childcare, community gardens and paying for street signs that include a Bible verse, Guyanese Methodists demonstrate God’s love in the little things of everyday life. After centuries of experience in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious culture, they’ve found that this is the best way to witness.

As Ireland becomes ever more multicultural, is there something we can learn from these approaches?

IN ALL PLACES

Find out how God is working through churches in Sri Lanka, Cuba, Kenya and Utila as they face persecution, share God’s word with their community, minister to rural congregations and address the challenges of an aging church.

The climbing church

Metzingen United Methodist Church in Germany had been inactive for some time, until a group of young leaders revitalised it -transforming the unused church building into a climbing gym and a community hub. They created a space where people can meet, build relationships and engage with faith in a new way. Their pastor, Bernd, explains, “The intention of our climbing gym is not to get people into the congregation, it is to bring people into contact with God.”
