GLOBAL CONNECTIONS

Through WMP, the Methodist Church in Ireland connects with churches around the world.

WHO WE WORK WITH:

METHODIST CHURCH UGANDA

The Methodist Church in Ireland has a long-standing relationship with the Methodist Church Uganda, with teams of over 50 Irish Methodists travelling to support the work of the church in 1999. In recent years this relationship has been reinvigorated through WMP’s visit to Uganda in 2025 and Bishop David and his wife Peninah visiting Ireland in return.

METHODIST CHURCH GHANA

The Methodist Church in Ireland has had a long association with Methodist Church Ghana (MCG). MCG was established in 1835 when local Christians requested British missionaries. Becoming autonomous in 1961, it now has over 800,000 members spread across 21 Diocese (Districts). MCG’s priority is evangelism and it also has a strong social witness, including hospitals and schools.

METHODIST CHURCH TOGO (Église Méthodiste du Togo)

Methodist Church in Ireland’s relationship with Methodist Church Togo started in 2007 when an Irish group visited. MCT is a growing church, currently with 150,000 members. Evangelism and church planting into the north, where there is Islam and animism, is a priority. As well as people’s spiritual needs, the church also responds to the social needs of its communities e.g. schools, clinics and agricultural training.

METHODIST CHURCH In Tanzania

In Tanzania ministers and evangelists regularly walk more than 40km to reach their churches, with limited transport links and no access to vehicles, this takes significant time and energy. By giving to WMP you’re helping to equip our Methodist brothers and sisters in Tanzania with bicycles and motorbikes as well as theological education for preachers – helping them go the distance for the Gospel!

The METHODIST CHURCH In Latvia

Until 1991, Christianity in Latvia was suppressed by the Soviet Government. Although Christianity is still the largest religion in the country, fewer than 1 in 10 Latvians regularly attend church services. Wesley Camp, a few miles inland from the Baltic Sea, is a place where God can reach those who don’t normally spend time in church. Through your giving, WMP and the Container Ministry have been able to provide practical goods and in-person support to the camp and other Methodist outreach organisations in Latvia in recent years, with another container arriving June 2026.

METHODIST CHURCH UPPER MYANMAR

Through World Mission Partnership, the Methodist Church in Ireland has developed a strong relationship with the Methodist Church Upper Myanmar (MCUM) over recent years. This has included two-way Presidential visits and a group from the Methodist Women in Ireland (MWI) also visited the church in Myanmar. WMP supports MCUM’s indigenous evangelists working in Animist and Buddhist areas.

the METHODIST CHURCH Sri Lanka

Suicide bombings targeting Christian churches in 2019 caused the deaths of almost three hundred people, sending shockwaves of fear through the community. Situations like this have driven young Sri Lankans to leave the island or seek escape in other ways. In 2023 the Methodist Church in Sri Lanka, supported by World Mission Partnership, hosted the “God’s Trend” Youth Camp, encouraging young people to explore their purpose and recommit their lives to God.

METHODIST CHURCH IN BRITAIN

WMP works closely with our counterparts in the Methodist Church in Britain (Global Relationships team). We meet regularly and share programmes, resources and learning.

SAT-7

SAT-7 is a Christian media network which uses the internet and satellite TV to reach more than 500million people across the Middle East and North Africa, a region where many Christians face severe persecution. We are excited to begin this partnership and support what God is doing through SAT-7.

BIBLE SOCIETY NI

WMP has partnered with the Bible Society Northern Ireland in recent years to support Bible distribution in Cuba, Honduras and most recently Pakistan Bible Society’s “Growing with the Bible” project, designed to bring God’s word to children.

WMP also maintains relationships with the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas, the Methodist Church in Brazil, Methodist Church Sierra Leone and the Methodist Church of Chile.
