2023-2024 programme grant: £10,000 (€11,300)
About 1 million Rohingya people live in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, the largest refugee camp in the world. The Rohingya are a largely Muslim people, with no state of their own, who were violently displaced from Myanmar in 2017. What was once a relief situation now requires a long-term development approach.
All We Can has partnered with a new local partner on the ground, BOLIPARA NARI KALYAN SOMITY (BNKS). Working with Rohingya refugees, their vision is; to create opportunities for participation in socio-economic development activities, awareness raising, access to education, and scope of employment. As a whole, to improve the living standards of the people by alleviating and building resistance against all forms of discrimination. There is a big focus on education, as so many had to abandon their education when they were displaced. BNKS are ensuring that children and adolescents are enrolled in educational centres, centres are equipped with educational materials and parents are trained on health, nutrition, child protection, and livelihood.
“I learned the Burmese and English alphabet. The Self-Learning Kit has helped me adjust to changes and stay positive and am also teaching my three children. I am ready for the next course from Self Learning Kit.”
