The Harbour Team
The Methodist Church in Ireland recognises the importance of offering practical support and encouragement to all those serving the Church.
For clergy, at times, there can be limited time for rest, both physically and mentally. It is our duty of care, as a Church, to provide and promote this much needed space for those dealing with the pressures and expectations that are inevitable when caring for others. This has been particularly apparent during the Covid-19 Pandemic when many communities have required extra assistance and we recognise those engaged in ordained ministry are no exception, they too need that same provision of care they so willingly provide.
Within the Methodist Church in Ireland our District Superintendents are central in this as they offer support to clergy, lay workers and churches across their Districts. We encourage all those serving within the Methodist Church in Ireland to avail of the support offered by them.
Additionally, “Care4Clergy”, a non-denominational support group comprised of clergy with a desire to promote the importance of clerical support, echo this same message when posing the question, “Who Pastors the Pastor?”.
As an answer to their question, they have gathered a small team of experienced clergy, who they call The Harbour Team, to provide an extra layer of support beyond what their specific denominations already offer. Although not a counselling service, they provide a confidential listening ear to help alleviate stress and ease the mounting pressures faced by those working within the ministerial sector. In a time when so much has been uncertain, the Harbour Team hope to create a safe, reliable place for clergy to come and feel heard, understood and supported.
