WDR is proud to partner with a number of organisations working to help people improve their own personal and economic development through education.
Our partners, Phakamisa, Open Schools Worldwide and Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf (FAID), provide education for pre-schoolers to adult learners.
Phakamisa work with caregivers in South Africa, teaching skills for income generation. Open Schools Worldwide work with at risk-children across Africa. While in Lebanon, FAID ensure that children with hearing impairments can access quality education, too.

MEET MOHAMAD
A 16-year old Syrian refugee living in Lebanon
Mohamed was born with hearing loss. He has never been to school but is eager to learn. Mohamad works in a small carpentry factory in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon.
Gladys Shawish, Director of Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf, explains that FAID staff with the Outreach Programme have been working with Mohamad, "The happiest moment for Mohamad was when he learned to spell and say his name in the correct way. Mohamad deserves a second chance in life. He needs to have an academic programme to help him have academic skills, life skills and to be able to have better opportunities in his life.
At FAID, we are currently exploring how we might be able to put something together for young people like Mohamad."
“Thank you WDR for coming alongside us, it has been an acceleration. We see the kids excel academically. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to put a book in every child’s hand. We look forward to greater things!”
