MCI statement on Drumcree
Over the last number of years we have seen many across society take significant and sacrificial steps to build a lasting peace. These last days threaten a return to tribal politics, division and unrest.
It is a time for calm and measured voices.
For the sake of the generations to come, we urge all parties to work to find a way forward which respects the traditions and identities of all. We make this call aware that this may involve sacrifice for the sake of the common good. We record our gratitude to the Police Service of Northern Ireland. We call on Methodists and all people of faith to recognise the image of God in everyone; to pray for others, especially when we differ; to work for peace, reconciliation and a society in which all know they are respected. We commit ourselves to follow the way of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
