Statement on Jon Boutcher as new PSNI Chief Constable

The Methodist Church in Ireland warmly welcomes the appointment of Jon Boutcher as the new Chief Constable for the PSNI.  

Good policing, in which all communities in Northern Ireland have confidence, is vital for our future well-being.  The PSNI face a number of very challenging issues in the months ahead.  

As we have always done, we call on our Methodist people to prayerfully support all who serve in the PSNI and in particular the new Chief Constable and all his senior team.  

At this difficult time, when excellent leadership is required, demonstrating wisdom, integrity and courage, we have confidence that Jon Boutcher can meet the challenge, and we wish him well.
