Updates from the World Council of Churches Assembly

Michael Briggs, is representing the Methodist Church in Ireland at the 11th World Council of Churches Assembly.

Michael is leader of Urban Junction, a church community on the South Leinster Circuit, based in Blackrock.

Friday 2 September Update:

“The conference has been great so far, I’ve connected with Methodists from all around the world, from Mexico to South Korea, Pacific Islands to Nigeria and many more. And other denominations too of course!

I’ve taken part in the ecumenical conversation on broadening the dialogue of the Church. It’s been fascinating to learn how they have previously in World Council of Churches engaged with various church backgrounds the questions around how they can listen and engage more.

Rev Dr Soritris Boukis, an Evangelical from Greece, noted that ‘broadening the dialogue we have with other churches has highlighted more strongly the common ground we hold together.’

This is very much the felt experience I have had so far at WCC. “

The theme of the Synod is Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity”.

4000 delegates are attending the 11th World Council of Churches Assembly from 31st August until 8th September in the City of Karlsruhe in South West Germany.
