Training to be a Local Preacher ~ across Ireland
The Methodist Local Preachers’ Course gives those training to be local preachers an opportunity to develop practical skills in the leading of worship alongside deepening their understanding of the Bible and Theology. The Course is a balance of self-study, online learning, guided tutorials, and includes practical assessment through the completion of a worship and preaching portfolio.
Since January a group of our Methodist Local Preachers in Training have been gathering online once a month. This group are at different stages of the Methodist Local Preachers Course but they are all working on their Worship and Preaching Portfolios. On the first evening, Grace McGurk, the Learning and Development Officer, guided them through the different sections of the Portfolio. Since then the group has met four times to explore different aspects of Leading Worship.
Their last Worship tutorial was on 27th May. The evening focused on response and sending.....thinking about how we, as leaders, will help others in their response. We asked the question, ‘what difference will their response make to how they live their life the rest of the week?’
‘Encourage us to live out our discipleship in the world.’
