RESOURCES AND TRAINING

On Wednesday 30th August, IMYC facilitated online Children's ministry training.  The evening was divided into three sessions which explored how churches and families can nurture faith in children and young people, engage with people who have autism, and help young people to process their emotions in a healthy way.

These sessions can be found below, along with a Children's Resource Review Pack.  All of the speakers are happy to chat further about what they have shared!

session ONE

CAROLINE BRADLEY:
Church beyond the building – helping families nurture a faith that lasts.

Caroline is National Representative for Care for the Family in NI, a UK wide organisation that exists to strengthen and support family life.  She has been married to Paul for 42 years, is mum to 3 adult sons, mum-in-law to 3 wonderful daughters-in-laws, and grandma to 6 gorgeous grandchildren with another one to arrive in September.

She is dedicated to enabling others to equip parents and couples within church and community settings, and seeing families thrive.

Her heart’s desire is to see families resourced to nurture faith in homes in the simple everyday ordinary journey of life and see our families, churches and communities’ flourish as a result.

session two

JAMES NELSON: ASD in Church

James is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist working in an NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health team (CAMHS).  He is passionate about church youth work and the theology of autism, and helped produce the website asdinchurch.com, providing resources for churches on autism.  He is married to Laura and they have two young sons.

This seminar will help us to think about how the church can engage with autism and how autistic people can engage with the church.

session three

PLAY IT BY EAR: What’s going on?

Play it by Ear is a Christian drama company which travels to churches, schools and festivals sharing stories of faith and hope. One of our most successful schools programmes is called 'What's going on?' in which we use a series of drama games to help primary school children to process their emotions in a healthy way.

This session will be the foundation of our seminar as we offer some hints and tips that we have found useful in helping children and young people to process their emotions in a way that's good for themselves and the people around them.
