Soul Mates House Party - Lucy Bateman
Soul Mates House Party took place on Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th September 2022 in Cork Methodist Church, Ardfallen, Cork.
It was great to be back in person after doing Soul Mates online for the last 2 years. As you know Soul Mates is for children aged between 8 and 13 years old. We were delighted to get children from lots of different areas; Cork, Kerry, Clare, Tipperary and Kilkenny. There were 10 girls and 7 boys who stayed there for the whole event and 3 girls who stayed for the day on Saturday. We also had 2 young leaders who supported our adult leaders. We are very grateful for Sonja who took over the kitchen and fed us all really well. And for our leaders, Raymond, Lucy, Mark, Rachael, Heidi, David and Brittany, who helped with games, teaching, leading small groups and helping with songs and videos. We did the theme of Emotions and used Sara Hargeaves journal book.
We were delighted that Play It By Ear were able to turn some of the emotions into great TV characters for us to enjoy and learn more, before we discussed the emotion for the session and within our small groups. We looked at anger, sadness, fear and joy.
On Saturday morning we played some games and had our first session. After lunch, we had our second session and then we got creative with some collage work. After a snack, the children were divided into two groups so that they could make a movie. Each group was given a word to be said in the movie, an action to be done and the story was made up by the children as they made the movie. After dinner we had our third session, and watched our homemade movies. We had two special visitors, Ray Starski and Holly Wood, who arrived to give out our awards for the best movie, music and actors. Our late night session was the movie ‘Inside Out’.
On Sunday morning we tidy up after a fab breakfast of waffles. We then had session four and took part in the worship service in Ardfallen. After lunch we did our final session and had an opportunity to explore some prayer spaces, while we wait for parents to collect.
It was a great event and wonderful to see God working in the lives of our younger generation. We are already looking forward to seeing everyone and more next year.
