Celebrating 100 years of churches working together

On Thursday 7th September, the Rev David Turtle, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland and some additional Methodist representatives attended an event celebrating 100 years of churches working together.

The event titled, ‘Being Churches Together in 21st Century Ireland’ was being held at The Helix at Dublin City University exploring the role of churches together in Ireland today.

The event celebrated 100 years of the Irish Council of Churches and 50 years since the Ballymascanlon Talks which led to the formation of the Irish Inter-Church Meeting.

Guest speakers included, Prof. Philip McDonagh, Dr Nicola Brady, and the Rev Dr Livingstone Thompson, and workshop sessions explored how churches can work effectively on different issues affecting society today such as sectarianism, economic inequality, ethnic and gender discrimination and the climate crisis.
