The remit of the Inter-Church Relations Committee is to address ‘those issues which concern relationships with other churches within Ireland and keep the church informed concerning ecumenical issues at a national (Britain and Ireland), European and world level.’ (Manual of Laws 42.2).

This is a complex remit with multiple forms of relationship:

  • Bi-Lateral relationships

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2022

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity takes place every year between January 18th and January 25th.

It was initiated in 1908 by Fr Paul Wattson, of the Graymoor Franciscan Friars,  he envisaged it running between feast days associated with St Peter and with St Paul,  the Feast of the Confession of Saint Peter (18th) and the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul (25th), two great fathers of the early Church. Over subsequent years, the week developed into a world-wide prayer event, involving churches of all traditions. In the southern hemisphere, it often takes place round Pentecost.

Each year, a national group of churches is invited to choose a theme and to prepare material towards the Week; this is edited by an ecumenical committee and made available.

For 2022, the theme, ‘We saw His Star in the East’, has been chosen by the churches of the Middle East and we are invited to pray with and for them.

Sadly it is unlikely that there will be many services this year, due to pandemic restrictions, but the Inter-Church relations Committee offers the following links for prayer and reflection.
