WMP General Secretary visits the Methodist Church The Gambia
Rev Dr Laurence Graham (WMP General Secretary) has just returned home from a visit to the Methodist Church The Gambia.
Laurence travelled up to Janjanbureh by ferry to visit church work in the North Bank area including a lovely church at Banni with a nursery school behind it and a church-sponsored clinic not far away.
Laurence was also able to visit a church agricultural project in this area. It had unfortunately fallen into disrepair but is now being reinstated with exciting plans to serve the community and protect the environment, as well as generating income for the church.
On Sunday, Laurence preached at Janjanbureh Methodist Church, the first Methodist church building in sub-Saharan Africa – built in 1835. That evening the group got back from Janjanbureh just in time to attend the youth prayer meeting at Trinity Pro-Cathedral Church.
“A new PA system funded by a grant from the World Mission Fund was set up and in full swing. This youth praise, prayer and preaching meeting takes place every Sunday night and the hall (previous church) at the side of Trinity is usually packed with youth some of whom travel from other Circuits. Last night’s crowd was smaller than usual because of heavy rain but it was such a joy to see the Spiritual passion of the youth.”
We look forward to hearing more from Laurence’s visit to The Gambia and gaining insight into how our two churches can learn from and support one another.
