Solidarity Grant for Haiti

Bishop Dorcely

Haitians continue to struggle amidst the danger and chaos of gang violence. In recent weeks, we have shared stories of gangs taking over Methodist churches, and storming a prison beside a Methodist school.

Despite the violence, Methodists continue to meet and demonstrate God’s love to the communities around them. Churches still worship together, hold Bible classes, carry out weddings and funerals, and provide food to those who need it. Many ministers continue to lead this work, despite not having received their stipends for more than a year.

Through World Mission Partnership, Irish Methodists recently sent a £10,000 solidarity grant to our church family in Haiti. Although this represents a tiny fraction of what the church needs, we hope it will be helpful during these desperate times.

Rev Dorcely, Bishop of the Methodist Church in Haiti, writes:

“I would like to express my word of thank you to you and all the members of World Mission for making this assistance possible to us. At this time of crisis it will be very helpful to us.”

Even more important than financial support are the prayers we offer. Has your church already used the Prayers of Solidarity for Haiti? Please consider using them during your normal intercessory prayer slot, with your small group, or as part of your personal prayer time. Sometimes, finding a solution to the situation in Haiti seems impossible - but as Bishop Dorcely reminds us, through prayer “God is able to move mountains.”
