Prayers of Solidarity for Poland

Communities in Poland are picking up the pieces after terrible floods swept through the Southwest of the country.

In September, Storm Boris dropped almost six months’ worth of rain in just three days. Ten people have been reported dead, and thousands had to flee their homes.

As the water recedes, the damage it caused becomes clear. Bridges and roads have been swept away; homes and businesses have been ruined. Many churches in Poland have been affected, but damage to the buildings is nothing compared to the devastation facing the people they serve.

Andrezj Malicki, Superintendent of the Methodist Church in Poland, says that many are facing disaster – including members of the Methodist Church. He has asked that Irish Methodists please pray for church members and for the communities around them.

Let us pray for our church family in Poland.

Loving God,

We come to you with heavy hearts, praying for the people of Poland who have been affected by the recent floods. We lift up those who have lost homes, belongings, and even loved ones during this difficult time. Be with them in their pain and uncertainty, and give them the strength and comfort they need each day.

We pray for churches who have been impacted by these floods. Please restore what has been lost and give them the resources needed to rebuild, not only in terms of physical structures but also in spirit. May their faith remain firm, even in the face of such hardship.

We pray for the Methodist Church in Poland, asking that it will be a beacon of hope and light during this time. Guide the church leadership, its ministers, and all its members as they reach out to those around them who are in need. Give them wisdom and compassion as they offer practical help and spiritual comfort to those who have been affected by the floods, even as they are suffering themselves.

Lord, may the Methodist Church stand as a witness to your love and grace during this crisis. Let their actions reflect your heart of service and mercy, drawing others closer to you through their care and support. In this time of great need, may your peace, provision, and hope be evident to all.

In Jesus's name we pray,

Amen.
