President’s response to death of Archbishop Tutu

The President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Rev. Sahr Yambasu, himself an African, has expressed his sadness on learning of the death of Archbishop Tutu.

"The late Archbishop's commitment to justice and reconciliation not only profoundly influenced South African but spread across the world. The source of all that Desmond Tutu was and achieved during his life time was rooted in his deep relationship with God. This relationship affected every area of his life.

Archbishop Tutu was a man of personal warmth, sharp intelligence and integrity who during his life time offered inspirational leadership especially in his stand against apartheid and in the building of a multi-society post-apartheid.

On behalf of the Methodist Church in Ireland I send its sympathy to the Archbishop's family and all who mourn at the news of his death. Yet while we mourn his death we are grateful to God for his life and influence"
