East Belfast Minister walking one million steps in May

During the month of May, the Rev Brian Anderson, minster of East Belfast Mission is taking on a walking challenge to raise vital funds for two of EBM’s projects.

Walking approximately 34,000 per day, Brian hopes to walk one million steps by the end of May.

The two projects are:

  1. Care Counselling
Care Counselling serves the local community through providing professional counselling and psychotherapy. A free service offering an integrative counselling approach. This project was established in the year 2000 and is a department within the community projects of East Belfast Mission. In 2023, Care Counselling gave 1,800 sessions.

  2. Community Fridge
Set-up to help individuals and families by providing a variety of food to help them through the Cost of Living crisis. Found in the Skainos Centre in East Belfast, the Community Fridge is open every weekday morning (9am - 12noon). Anyone is welcome and no-one is judged or asked questions. Last year, in the region of 30 individuals/families received food daily.

Commenting on the challenge, Brian said:

“I know it is a mad idea, one I’ve never seen taken on before, for which there is probably a reason! But nothing ventured, nothing gained, and if achieving this challenge helps sustain these services, then I will be happy.”
