There are currently over 30 mission partners serving overseas, having been sent out by the Methodist Churches of Britain and Ireland. Those from the Irish Connexion are:
Barry & Gillian Sloan - Germany
Barry & Gillian and family went to the former East Germany as mission partners in 1999. Chemnitz was the main church where they ministered but Barry also had charge over two other churches in Floha and Augustusburg.
From the summer of 2012, Barry took up the national post of Director of Evangelism, a very important role. It entails heading up the Board of Evangelism which works in the areas of church planting, evangelism and congregational development - some similarities to the Irish Home Mission Department. Gillian is busy with teaching English and both are involved with 'Inspire' a church plant in Chemnitz city.
Barry has published ”When the Saints go Marching”, a book about his Columban pilgrimage. More details about the book below. ALL proceeds from book sales go to mission projects in the German United Methodist Church. If you would like to support mission to Germany you can order the book from Amazon.
Pat Jamison - Ghana
Pat Jamison, from Newtownabbey Methodist Mission north of Belfast, is a nurse who originally served with the Church of Bangladesh for six years. She worked as a Community Health Adviser for the Church of Bangladesh Social Development Programme (CBSDP). Having spent 3 years in a rural area she then moved to the central office Dhaka and was involved in the implementation of the Community Health and Hygiene section of the development programme.
In April 2016 Pat started a new placement with Ankaase Faith Healing Methodist Hospital in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Apart from her work at the hospital, she also involves herself in local children's work such as Girls' Brigade and Boys' Brigade.
